I love to make stuff. I understand that is a general statement so let me explain. There is something about the process of creating photos, videos, music, etc that allows me to lose track of everything around me. When I really get into a video project or some creative project I will lose track of time, forget to eat and drink. That probably sounds unhealthy but there aren't many better feelings to me than putting all of my attention into a project to see it through from start to finish. Bellow you will find examples of my content creation experience during. I've also included a section for my Instagram because that is where I place most of my creative experiments and it reflects my style and the type of person I am.
The colleges you see above are part of my personal project I titled, “Be a Tourist”. I noticed a few months after living in Chicago that I had stopped feeling the exciting “touristy” feeling I had when I first set foot in the city. To reset my outlook on the city I began to examine everything I looked at to see how I could make it look new again in my brain. I noticed that if I take a closer look at my surroundings they all have a unique story to tell and all fit in their settings a unique way. I wanted to find a way to combine my goal of sparking my wonder of the city with my visual design skills. What I landed on was a combination of photography and magazine cut out collages. In a random stroke of serendipity I remembered that when I was younger I had to make poster in an art class with only images I cut out of a magazine. I thought why not cut out the things I see in the city and put them together into a collage. It’s not anything groundbreaking. It’s basically visual recycling for the eyes. Through this process I’ve fallen in love with the city all over again. It’s not even just the city anymore though. I’ve learned to look at the world and my life the same way a tourist looks at something for the first time. #BeaTourist
Check out the highlights of personal and professional projects I worked on in 2017!
This past summer I had the opportunity to intern at the Havas Worldwide office in New York City. I was able to assist in the production of multiple pharmaceutical brand television spots. Specifically, I worked on director and production company searches and and general administrative aid for the the producers that mentored me. I also had the opportunity to collaborate with an intern team to create a promotional video for the Books for Kids Foundation in partnership with the Mother Hale Learning Center in Harlem, New York. The video I and my team created was chosen by the client to be used in future promotional events.
I also had an opportunity to create cover photos for the Havas, Havas Media, and Havas Connect Glassdoor.com landing page.
I had the opportunity to work with a team of 7 media planners to create a $10 and $15 million media campaign to pitch to Tai Pei Frozen Chinese food. This project was part of the National Student Advertising Competition for the American Advertising Federation. It took place from Fall 2016 through spring of 2017. We researched the cost of traditional and nontraditional media to give our client the most possible exposure to their target audience (M/F 25-34) possible. My favorite flavor of Tai Pei has to be chicken fried rice, it's a classic. Our team will be presenting to a panel of professional judges at Notre Dame University on Friday April, 21st!
Created a social media campaign to promote social media engagement throughout the UIUC chapter. I was able to do this by having a great four team committee that I hand picked for the task. We increased Instagram and Facebook post engagement by 50% as compared to the previous semester. The success was based on consistent posts that were fun and relevant to what was happening in the chapter at the time.
Increased internal and external chapter awareness by creating images and videos to showcase chapter events and projects. Some examples of the work is included below!
Created all visual aspects for an awareness campaign looking to raise donations for the East Central Illinois Refugee Mutual Assistance Center. This project was part of my Sandage senior capstone course. My team (Goya) competed with four other groups in the course to provide the best possible campaign plan for the client. A lot of late nights and small adjustments went into this project and I couldn't be happier with the results. Examples of my graphic work are below.
Shot and edited promotional videos for local student organizations and businesses. Had the opportunity to use various DSLR cameras, audio, and lighting equipment. Canopy Club and Courrage Connection are a few of the brands I worked with. An example of my work is available below.
Worked with the Medical Student Association on campus to create print copy to promote events and member recruitment.
Contacted music lovers on SoundCloud, Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr to promote Kronos 777, a contracted MTV DJ looking to promote his personal brand.
I included my Instagram account because I am always updating it with creative work experiments. By experiments I mean new techniques and styles of photography and videography. I am always trying to find new ways to push myself creatively and to tell a story from a different perspective.
